Products Description
Sulfadiazine, also referred to as diazine, is a widely‑used clinical sulfonamide anti‑infective agent. Structurally analogous to para‑aminobenzoic acid (PABA), it competes with PABA for binding to bacterial dihydrofolate synthase. Such competitive interference impedes bacterial folic acid biosynthesis with PABA as the precursor, lowering the concentration of tetrahydrofolate. As tetrahydrofolate is an indispensable compound for bacteria to synthesize purine, thymidine and DNA, this mechanism ultimately suppresses bacterial proliferation and reproduction.
This compound demonstrates inhibitory activity against susceptible pathogens including hemolytic streptococci, staphylococci, meningococci, pneumococci, gonococci, Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae. It is also effective against other microorganisms such as Chlamydia trachomatis, actinomycetes, plasmodium, Nocardia asteroides and toxoplasma.

Products Application
As a high‑potency sulfonamide antibiotic, sulfadiazine delivers strong antibacterial and astringent properties. It features favorable therapeutic performance, fast absorption rate, slow excretion and high effective blood‑drug concentration. Clinically, it is applied for the management of infections including upper respiratory tract infection, epidemic meningitis, otitis media, furunculosis, puerperal fever, urinary tract infection and acute bacillary dysentery, mainly against pathogens such as hemolytic streptococci, pneumococci, meningococci, gonococci and Escherichia coli. Its pharmacological mode of action lies in the inhibition of prokaryotic folate biosynthesis: it suppresses dihydropteroate synthase and further blocks the generation of dihydropteroate.
