Products Description
Anhydrous calcium chloride is a white, porous fritted or granular solid featuring strong deliquescence. It possesses a melting point of 782 °C and a boiling point above 1600 °C. Readily soluble in water, the substance dissolves with substantial heat release; it also exhibits solubility in ethanol and acetone.
Calcium chloride hexahydrate (CaCl₂·6H₂O) is its most prevalent hydrate variant, occurring as colourless trigonal crystals. This hexahydrate is deliquescent, with a bitter‑salty flavour and a density of 1.71 g/cm³. It undergoes incongruent dissolution in its own crystal water at 29.92 °C (cited from Chemicalbook). Upon heating to 30 °C, it sheds four molecules of crystal water and transforms into calcium chloride dihydrate (CaCl₂·2H₂O), a white porous solid with notable hygroscopic properties. Continued heating yields calcium chloride monohydrate. Once temperatures rise over 200 °C, total dehydration takes place to yield highly‑hygroscopic anhydrous calcium chloride. Furthermore, calcium chloride can react with ammonia to generate the ammonia complex CaCl₂·8NH₃.

Products Application
Calcium chloride is reported to have tumorigenic and mutagenic potential, and relevant human studies back these hazards. It may also disrupt hormonal balance.
This chemical boasts a wide range of applications. It acts as road de-icing salt, desiccant for drying chambers, dehydrating agent for organic liquids and gases, and a component in refrigeration brines and antifreeze formulations. Beyond that, it functions as a dust suppressant, food additive, concrete hardening accelerator and other industrial uses.
Aqueous calcium chloride solutions exhibit weak basicity. When moisture exists, it reacts with zinc to generate highly flammable hydrogen gas. Dissolution in water is vigorous and releases a large quantity of heat. It is chemically incompatible with multiple substances such as bromine trifluoride, furan‑2 and percarboxylic acids. In humid environments, calcium chloride may corrode certain metals and construction materials.
