Product Description of Arbutin CAS#497-76-7
Arbutin is a glycosylated form of hydroquinone that occurs naturally in Arctostaphylos plants and exhibits a range of biological activities, including tyrosinase inhibition, antioxidant effects, and anti-inflammatory properties. It effectively inhibits human tyrosinase activity in crude enzyme preparations derived from melanocytes, with IC50 values of 5.7 mM and 18.9 mM using L-tyrosine and L-DOPA as substrates, respectively, and also inhibits activity in intact melanocytes, with an IC50 of 0.5 mM.
At concentrations up to 50 μM, arbutin inhibits hemolysis induced by the free radical generator AAPH in sheep erythrocytes. At concentrations exceeding 125 μM, it prevents the AAPH-induced decline in cell viability of cultured human skin fibroblasts. In a rat model of LPS-induced acute lung injury, arbutin (50 mg/kg) suppresses the elevation of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α levels in both lung tissue and serum. Formulations containing arbutin are widely used in the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders.
