Triphenylphosphine can be sulfonated with oleum to yield trisulfonic acid. It covers a wide range of important applications. It participates in Wittig synthesis and acts as a standard ligand for homogeneous catalysis. Via the transesterification process, it helps produce the organophosphorus intermediate trimethyl phosphite, which can be further converted into various organophosphorus pesticides including dichlorvos, monocrotophos and phosphamidon. Moreover, triphenylphosphine works as a stabilizer for rubber and resin production, an antioxidant for polyvinyl materials, and a starting material for synthesizing alkyd and polyester resins.
