Products Description
Anhydrous magnesium sulfate (CAS: 7487‑88‑9) is an inorganic chemical compound. High‑purity grades exhibit a pure‑white appearance, whereas conventional industrial‑grade material may show a faint grey hue. This slight discoloration originates from trace residual impurities such as iron ions or other mineral substances retained throughout production and purification workflows.
The substance features strong hygroscopic capacity. Upon exposure to ambient air, it readily absorbs moisture and gradually converts into hydrated magnesium‑sulfate variants, including magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, which is widely known as Epsom salt.

Product Application
One of its most well‑known usages is as a desiccant. Thanks to its powerful hygroscopic capacity, it is widely adopted as a drying agent in laboratories and organic‑synthesis workflows to eliminate trace moisture from solvents or gas streams. Moreover, it acts as a starting material for manufacturing other magnesium‑based compounds including magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide.
Within the textile sector, it serves as a mordant, while in the paper‑making industry it functions as a bleaching agent. When incorporated as a cement additive, it optimizes cement performance.
In agriculture, anhydrous magnesium sulfate works as an efficient magnesium fertilizer. It replenishes magnesium nutrients in soil and boosts photosynthetic activity for crops.
For pharmaceutical applications, magnesium sulfate (mostly in hydrated forms) can be applied for treating hypomagnesemia, and used as a cathartic and cholagogue agent.
In the food‑processing industry, it may be added to brewing water and utilised to adjust mineral composition in food formulations.
