Product Description of Melamine CAS#108-78-1
Melamine, also known as "melamine," "protein essence," or "melamine (Pinyin: mì'àn)," is a nitrogen-rich triazine heterocyclic organic compound commonly used as a chemical raw material. It appears as a white monoclinic crystal, nearly odorless, slightly soluble in water (3.1 g/L at room temperature), and soluble in solvents such as formaldehyde, acetic acid, hot ethylene glycol, glycerin, and pyridine, while being insoluble in acetone and ethers. Melamine is toxic and is not suitable for use in food processing or as a food additive. Unfortunately, it has been illicitly added to dairy products by some unscrupulous merchants to artificially increase measured protein content.
